Spyware 101: What is a Point Guard In and Off Court

Point Guards are Hard Court Generals .. They are the one who calls for the plays and the person who creates opportunity for his teammate to score in a ball game.

Here are some responsibilities of a point guard in and off the court.

  • Keep constant pressure on a passer or dribbler forcing them off of their desired path of attack.
  • Talk constantly on defense helping their teammates to recognize potentially dangerous points of attack by their opponent. They keep their focus throughout the course of a game, and pay attention to details at nearly all times.
  • Advance the ball up the court from the defensive three point line to the attacking three point line with 2-3 dribbles while under control, and they always pass ahead when a teammate is open down the court who either has an open shot, or can create a numbers advantage from which the retreating defense cannot recover .
  • Able to play excellent defense and create shots for himself in the halfcourt offense. He needs to be a weapon from long range as well. This is true because the better a shooting guard can shoot from behind the three point line, the more it forces defenses to step farther out on the court to guard him. This in turn allows the lane to be open to both penetration, and for the post players.
  • Get their teams prepared psychologically for practice and for games. They know which players need to be provoked to pick up intensity or concentration and which ones are excitable and need to be calmed.
  • On the fast break they constantly find a way to get open on the outlet pass as far up the court as possible.
  • Able to be a spot-up shooter—to be able to catch and shoot—as well as be able to create his own shot off the dribble.
    The shooting guard is often called upon to get the team a quality shot when their offense has broken down. In other words, when a play has not worked, or the opposing team's defense has thrown a team out of sync, the shooting guard must step up and be able to create something out of nothing.
  • Know how to get their best scorers the ball on a consistent basis, but are always on the lookout for how to create high percentage scoring opportunities for offensive teammates in a lesser role. They are able to keep all of their teammates involved offensively which makes the attacking team more difficult to guard.
  • Know their own team´s optimal tempo for both offense, defense, and in transition. They know when to speed the tempo up or slow it down.
  • Always have their head up and maintain full court vision at all times. They do not see one opponent or blocks of 2 or 3, they see all 10 players on the court, and understand the relationship of each by positioning.
  • Pay attention to situational advantages such as on the free throw line, during jump balls, or in the flow of the game. For example, when an attacking team has a penetrating guard with no one getting back for defensive balance, they know to attack hard and quick on the counter fast break.
  • Quickly and clearly communicate play calls or changes both in the open court and on dead ball situations. They also have the ability to quickly organize a team after an offensive pattern breakdown.
  • Seldom turn the ball over due to pressure, and when they deliver a pass to a teammate it is to a point closest to the best position from which their teammate can score. Not occasionally, but virtually every single time.
  • Understand completely a coach´s (and therefore the team´s) playing philosophy from top to bottom and every ounce of energy and effort is put forth to execute that philosophy. I have seen good guards who are great physically who constantly break out of the team philosophy creating confusion over the team´s offensive and defensive goals. Great guards understand you cannot win if all the oarsmen are not rowing in the same direction.
  • Rarely get caught out of position in defensive transition and the best have the ability to buy time, and space to force the defense into a low percentage shot in the open court even with a superior numbers advantage. They may not stop the break every time, but if they stuff it half the time, they will save you 8 or 10 free points a game.
  • Can stop dribble penetration on defense
  • Able to dribble without thinking about dribbling or about the opponent who is guarding you. This will free you to see the court, ready to pass to a teammate who is open.

Eversun Cup Conference 2 Day 1 : Spywares VS Assumption Broken Arrows

It was the first game of the conference and faced the formidable Broken Arrows.. We lost 3 of the encounters but with the help of new team addition Center Nat's we were able to stop and limit their transition points .. and dictate the game to a slow and set up tempo ..and escape a 15 point lead at the end of the first quarter ..

During the two succeeding quarter it was a see saw battle between the two teams but were able to get an 8-0 run during last few minutes of the 3rd quarter.. and were able to maintain the lead until the buzzer sounded.

We fortunately got our first win against the Broken Arrows.. hehehe "Chamba" .. keep it up SPYWARE .. and may the force be with you ...

After the game we were able to get a chance to play with our next opponent ... but sad to say we lost the game .. the good thing is that its only an exhibition game .. :)

Reasons Why to Watch Movies on Big Screen

There are lots of Reason why to watch a movie in the Big Screen..

Here are some of the list ...

  • We can view the movie before it will be available to the video stores and shops
  • We can view the movie before it will be seen in the cable TV (HBO , Star Movies)
  • We can view the movie as many times as we want .. (Applicable to Philippines) not sure to the other countries :)
  • The Screen will be bigger than any household's Television.
  • The Sound is really loud that we can feel the thrill ..
  • Air Condition - The Cinema's Air Condition System is really cool
  • If we are inside the malls.. foods and food chains are accessible but not free. hehehe
  • Lastly, is that it will serve as moral support to our favorite artist and can considered as measurement of how good the movie is .

Sunday is League Play Day



Last Sunday, our local Magic The Gathering shop owner announced Sunday as League Play day --

here the guidelines of the League Tournament:

1. League Play – After players complete a Magic Match he/she receives one “tick-mark” by his/her name for completing the match and the match winner receives an additional “tick-mark”. After a player earns fifteen “tick-marks” he/she will be rewarded with one promo card. More league rules below.

2. Planeswalkers Achievement – After a player accomplishes seven achievements he/she will be rewarded with one promo card. Achievement rules below.


LEAGUE PLAY
Date: Sundays (Nov-Dec)
Time: 1PM-5PM
Format: Standard
Entrance Fee: P50 (good for the whole league tournament)

DETAILS:
*Not a Sanctioned Magic Tournament
*You can play any players who are also registered for league play anytime on Sundays.
*Players should not play the same opponent in consecutive matches on the same day.
*Both players report league match results to the League Facilitator after matches have been completed.
*The facilitator gives both players one “tick-mark” by his/her name for completing the match and the match winner receives an additional “tick-mark”.
*After a player has earned 15 “tick-marks” he/she will received a Woolly Thoctar promo card (while supplies last).
*After a player has earned 28 “tick-marks” he/she will receive another promo card (while supplies last).
*Your “tick-marks” or points will be carried over to the next league play.
*League Play ends when the supply of the promo cards is no more.
*This style of league play is less competitive, and is more flexible than tournament play.


PLANESWALKERS ACHIEVEMENT
*No entrance fee is required to participate
*Register first at the card shop
*Players may earn a promo card (while supplies last), by completing predetermined Achievements.
*After a player has accomplished 7 Planeswalkers Achievements he/she will be rewarded with one Sprouting Thrinax promo card.
*This style of Magic play is very casual and is great for new players.


The Planeswalkers Achievements are:
*Bring a new player to play Magic in this Location
*Participate in a Sanctioned Magic Tournament
*Teach a new customer How to Play Magic
*Participate in a Sanctioned Standard Tournament
*Donate old Basic Land cards to Location Organizer
*Participate in a Sanctioned Limited Tournament
*Register for League Play
*Participate in a Sanctioned 2HG Tournament
*Earn 15 League tick-marks
*Finish first in a Sanctioned Magic Tournament
